Artist Statement

​

Jasmine Mills lives and works in Cornwall. She graduated with a BA in Fine Art from Falmouth School of Art (2017). Since graduating she was awarded the Cultivator graduate start-up award. Jasmine is one of three co-curating ‘Island’.

 

Post graduation I have realised the importance of conversation and network. The people you surround yourself with have a huge impact on practice. Which is one of the main reasons it was so important to co-organise Island.

My way of painting is often emotional and instinctive, I feel an urgency to make marks. Analysis of paintings always deals with the last layer but it is within the foundations of the paint that you’ll find my stories. 
I have conversations with memories and encounters but as I paint they become skewed and sometimes feel impossible. I find great interest in the feeling of nonsense.’
