Artist Statement
I create work that gives a sense of another time, weathered, decaying, with a patina of age, and then I expose a narrative by chipping off layers, the equivalent in paint to peeling off 100 years of wallpaper, which then provides me the ideal surface to work with.
This requires a methodical rigour that appeals to my sense of neatness and systems that were my working life before painting. The physicality of the process is also important to me, repeating systems of addition and removal gives the work its own layers of history and that enables me to create my own aged patina that I need for a piece to work for me.
